I agree with you, it was a training accident involving
a student and an instructor. However, a student who
takes literally instructions to hit a point on the
runway without thought to the consequenses of damage
to the plane or occupants is using poor judgment.
This was after all simulated, not an emergency.
Attempt to land on the spot, not hit the spot!!!!!
Owners of aircraft companys (Joe) and instructors have
it tough at times in trying to get pilots up to speed
for high performance aircraft. We all pay because of
incidents such as this (insurance) and I do realize
there is a learning curve for everyone at all skill
levels. And as you indicate even the most skilled
high time pilots have accidents.
My real concern with my origional post is regarding a
failure of a part of the aircraft that caused the
accident, a safety issue. I am very glad that this is
not the case. I am sorry that it was a training
accident and at the same time glad that no one was
hurt.
