Here are two methods, but I would certainly not recommend anyone try
these.
1.  Add sufficient flow restriction in the main gear hydraulic down line
to slow down the free fall nature of the gear.  This is not good for
emergency extensions however.
2.  Extend the gear while inverted.  This also requires an inverted
hydraulic oil supply.  I suppose inverted pick-ups for the engine would
also help.
