This may be a little off the subject, but I'm good a that!
This months' Aviation Consumer has a interesting article on sferics vs.
XM. In summary, if you want to take a wide berth around weather, XM is the
best choice. But if you like to pick your way through tight spaces, the
delay in XM makes sferics a better choice. I personally fall in the first
group, no tight squeezes for me.
Since sferics have been around for much longer, many users are more
familiar with them, but even with that fact, 9 out of 10 readers who responded
to the survey said if they could have only one system they would choose
XM. However about 50% of the readers thought having both was
important.
