WLS can also be rolled on. Use a foam roller for applying varnish or varathane. If you roll it on, you don't have to deal with overspray or cleaning the gun each time you apply some.

Whether you roll or spray, I recommend that you apply the first coat with a squeegee. This is really the only way to fill all the pinholes.
