The TSIO-550 and the IO-550G (the original "Super ES" engine) have a different oil cooler than the IO-550N.  That cooler on the TSIO and the G can actually work too well and keep the oil well below 180 degrees, the temperature the vernatherm is set for.  I believe that's why the oil cooler door was originally designed into the system.  I really don't think it's necessary with the G.  My door is up on the shelf in my hangar too.
