I used a 48" probe.
I did not use the fuel pick up in the manual. First I fitted the
slosh doors recommended by Lancair. They supplied a kit of the
hardware. Secondly from Lancair I received a different fuel pick up which
is inserted into the end of the tank as follows
Lancair supplied two pieces of brass 3/16" x 11/2" square. In the
middle of these pieces is a 3/8"" pipe thread. A finger type screen filter
fits into this pipe thread. The brass piece is potted into the end of each
tank at the lowest point. To access this filter and make the pipe
connection, once the wing is on the aircraft, you have to cut a hole in the
outboard web of the stub wing before finally fitting the wing. This hole
has to be big enough to allow the connection to be tightened with a wrench and
this will also allow you to get a socket in there to remove the filter screen
should you so wish, once you have removed the pipe.
If you look on page 17 Chapter 11 of the Lancair Manual you will see the
same set up but applied to the header tank, using an Al fitting instead of the
brass on I used.
I have one spare filter and brass piece that I could lend you to
copy.

Subject: [LML] Re: Fuel Level probe
Thank you for the info. What length of probe should I
get. 48"?
To Install the fuel pickup the manual say to run 3/8 " aluminum line
through a phenolic insert through the BL 50 ribs. Could I simply pot a 1/2
inch brass insert at the fuel pickup area for a removeable fuel strainer? Does
it make a difference that the fuel strainer runs from left to right instead of
front and rear postion? Thanks for any input.
