You mentioned Niagara Thermal asserted they could build a superior design. I Google'd them and found their web site. As near as I can tell, they don't have an oil cooler product for the IO-550N. Is this correct? If they have such a product, can you point me (and other interested builders on this list) to it? This was several months ago when I was tracking down IO-550N oil cooling issues. Interestingly, the oil cooler designs that we have available to us on our certified engines are hopelessly outdated. They are required by FAA rules to build the coolers with the original design and performance to receive PMA approval. He said the current technology would allow them to build far superior coolers.
