 John,

I believe Dave Allen was flying an ES with a different wing design.

The NTSB report implies the 20 to 30 degree pitch up occurred before any
other probelm developed. The aircraft will not sustain this kind of pitch
angle for very long following takeoff... not enough energy.

The report of black smoke coming from the exhaust should be examined in
detail including a look at the fuel flow setting with takeoff power. It is
possibleto dial in too much fuel flow that the engine will hesitate, sputter,
what ever you want to call it and even quit from an overly rich mixture. Be
very careful of your fuel system settings before you venture off a short
runway for the first time.
