 Easy now.  It appears on the surface that this accident was caused by, 1.
Engine failure and, 2. an attempt by the pilot to turn back to the airport
with insufficient altitude and/or airspeed.
 
 It might be a stretch to be discussing how "not-safe" the Lancair designs are
because of this accident.
