Over a series of recent flights I noticed a bit of oil around the 2
safety-wired bolt heads at the front of the nose gear strut. Upon checking
the bolts, I found them, uhh, not snug. I removed the safety wire and
tightened the bolt head about 1-2 flats and re-wired them. There was no
indication of seepage after the last flight and once the bolts were
tightened. The strut was rebuilt by Lancair in 1999 and last serviced with
oil and nitrogen in February 2005.
Hmmmmm, how did safety-wired bolts loosen a bit over a 6 year
period?
In any event, just something else to check on the next annual.
