Marv,
From my perspective the Joliet Fly-in was a resounding success for a
first time effort and a short time frame from concept to event day. Doug
Mcallister's energy, enthusiasm, and financing caused the Fly- in to
happen on short notice. I asked Doug for the particulars since his
computer is currently down.
Attendees = 200;
LNC2's = 13;
LNC4's = 3;
LNCE's = 1;
Lancair builders arriving in other modes of transportation = 33
Attendees came from: New Jersey, Louisiana, Kentucky, Michigan U.P.,
Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois. Sorry for the others I can't
remember.
Events for the day included lunch, airshow, landing competition, dinner
with live band (as opposed to dead band?),numerous how-to classes held
by individual airplanes, and a class on fiberglass lay-ups by Scott
Krueger. The opportunity to talk with other Lancair builders/flyers and
trade information on techniques and experiences in a Lancair focused
environment was invaluable.
The airfield has a classic 1940's look and feel to it, with the
grassroots aspects of flying were very evident. All in all a good place
to be involved in aviation.
Doug tells me he is already planning for next year and who knows--maybe
next year he can get Michael Jordan to demonstrate lay ups rather than
Scott. Sorry for that guys.
Still building
Doug R
