Formation Flyers,
The clinic is only 10 days away.
This being sent out to the various groups in regard to our upcoming
3rd annual RV Formation Clinic, being hosted by The Ohio Valley
RVators along with Stu 'Falcon' McCurdy (Falcon Flight) and
Mike 'Kahuna' Stewart (Team RV). As you know, the clinic will again
be held at The Mid Ohio Valley Airport in Parkersburg, West Virginia
on April 28th, 39th, and 30th.

Before I type anything else...I want everyone to know that the MOST
IMPORTANT aspect of our formation clinic is S-A-F-E-T-Y.
Nothing....and I mean nothing....is more important than each one of
us going home to our families at the end of the weekend. If you
see/feel/hear/smell something that isn't right...then stop what you
are doing and have it addressed immediately.
Clinic details (including hotel accommodations) can be found on our
website at:
http://rv6rick.tripod.com/ohiovalleyrvators/
There may be a typo or two in there but the basic info should be
accurate.
Things you NEED TO KNOW:
1-Be SURE to have read AND understand the T-34 Formation Manual
aka 'Thuh Book'...if you don't have a copy....GET ONE NOW...you can
find it here:
www.buildersbooks.com
2-Print a copy of the 'RV Supplement'....keep it with your copy
of 'Thuh Book'. Be sure to have read and understand this material as
well. You can find it in the files section of our Yahoo site
under 'Formation Flying Info':
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OhioValleyRVators/files/
We'll also have copies at the clinic.
3-Make sure you KNOW YOUR AIRCRAFT. This is not the time or place to
be looking for your fresh air vent or your trim switch.
4-Make sure your aircraft is SAFE & READY TO FLY.
5-As detailed on the website.….the pizza party starts at 6pm on
Friday. The ground school begins at 7pm Friday evening - SHARP!! Do
NOT BE LATE....we will not wait for you. REMINDER - you MUST attend
the ground school if you want to fly in the clinic. Also...do NOT be
late for the briefs on Saturday and Sunday or you will not fly.
6-The clinic is FREE. That said....we DO accept donations for the
pizza and breakfast food/drinks. Last year we had to pay some
expenses out of our pocket. We appreciate any/all donations.
7-NO vernier type throttles....NO exceptions.
8-If you have never attended one of our clinics...you should expect
this to be one of the most intense flying weekends you've ever taken
part in. I'd suggest getting plenty of rest Thursday night. You won't
have any problem sleeping Friday or Saturday night.
What to bring:
1-Tie downs - just in case. Again, hangar space is first come first
served...that is AFTER all Falcon/TEAM RV/OVRVators/FFI card holders
are hangared. We should have LOTS of hangar space but be sure to let
me or Lefty know IN PERSON if you want your name on the list. It's
only $5 per night...no early reservations. Lefty and I take care of
ALL the logistics...we don't want to hear...'well...I told so and so'.
2-Kneeboard, notepad, and something to write with.
3-Chocks - you are responsible for your own airplane...I do NOT want
your plane rolling off the ramp and hitting mine.
4-A small amount of cash (see #6 above), or we take checks :^)
….again….we'd like to break even this year.
5-Bring your best smile and plan on a great time and a super learning
experience.
What not to bring:
1-No attitudes.
2-No egos.
3-No bad moods.
4-And most of all....NO EXCUSES.
Fuel:
Right now fuel is at $3.17 per gallon at the pump. I understand that
it should still be at that price for the clinic. Nothing to write
home about but I've seen a LOT higher. BE SURE to pay for your fuel
after you top off...and move your aircraft when you are finished
fueling...we have a LOT of airplanes that will need fuel. As we say
in the USMC...."keep the chow line movin' Prive".
Misc. Stuff:
-We will (again) be using the `rookie eval cards' after each flight.
We found these to be very effective communication for the Flight
Leads and the Wingmen during the last clinic.
-Vans sent me a box of shirts, hats, and mugs....I hope you get
one :^)!
-We have right at 52 folks registered for the clinic. We usually have
some 'no shows'.....I know....it's hard to believe that folks would
sign up then not show up but it does happen :^(. WX permitting, I
fully expect most of these folks to be here.
Airplanes:
Right now we have 48 RV's and 1 Lancair coming. The Lancair is our
photo ship.
10 RV4's
12 RV6's
3 RV6A's
1 RV7
4 RV7A's
15 RV8's (you'll have that....smile)
3 RV8A's
That's 39 taildraggers and 10 nosedraggers if you're counting.
Pilots:
FFI Check Pilots - 3
FFI Flight Leads - 3
FFI Wingmen - 9
Newbies - 15
Intermediates - 17
The above gives us about a 1 to 2 ratio of FFI folks to
newbies/intermediates which translates into some real good training
for the newbies and some high level training opportunities for the
intermediates.
-Don't rule out flying on Friday. We have a lot of folks that come in
early and we do a lot of 'hop-nobbing' and fun formation flying
before in the early afternoon and before the pizza party. I'll be
there by 7am so roll on in anytime you like. But, be carefull.....I
may put you to work :^)!!
-When you arrive, tell the tower that you are with the Formation
Clinic and they'll have you park on the Main Ramp right by the GA
building. Low approaches and multi-ship passes will be the order of
the day for arriving aircraft. There will be a lot of folks watching
your arrival...so look good :^)!
-Airport details are on the website or can be found at:
http://www.airnav.com/airport/KPKB
Please send any questions and I'll get you an answer asap.
Looking forward to seeing you at the clinic!
Remember - "You snooze....You Looze".
