I concur with Bob's post. Paul's numbers appear believable.
The wood prop on my Lancair is a 64 X 82. I see a best glide decent rate of
750 to 800 FPM at 120 MPH IAS (104 KIAS to most of you) power off idle, prop
wind milling.
It takes longer to get slowed to pattern speed from decent. My approach to
landing is somewhat flatter when compared to Lancairs with CS props, and my
roll out after landing is longer. It is harder on brakes too. As a result,
my comfort zone for runway minimum landing length is 3,000 feet, as I tend to
use a lot of usable runway while in ground effect looking for that landing
"sweet spot".
I hope this information helps the pilots that have not flown behind
(literally or in-trail) a fixed pitch airplane in a while.
