What I've been told, and have read, about GPSS is that it will anticipate 
the next course segment and smoothly intercept it.  It doesn't necessarily 
fly directly over the waypoint.  Without GPSS you will fly to the waypoint 
and then turn onto the new segment, which results in some overshoot of the 
new course.
