I also learned to use West Epoxy and micro to do filling and to ease the task
of sanding. I used this mix on my wings, and still spent many, many hours
sanding.
I recently started using the Poly Fiber Super Fill product after hearing a
presentation at Oshkosh. It is a bit tougher to mix (not much as you learn
how) but is consistent and uniform, lighter, and much easier to sand than the
epoxy and micro mixture. Available in the Aircraft Spruce catalog in quart
kits or 3 gallon kits. Try a quart kit for evaluation. You will like it. I
just received a three gallon kit (about $140 if I recall correctly) and wish
I had been using it since the beginning. When you figure the cost of a three
gallon mixture of West Epoxy and micro, I believe the difference in cost is
negligible in light of the huge difference in sanding effort. Unless you
like your aerobics while working on your airplane. The dust sticks so nicely
to the perspiration..... :-)
