Dan -

You're correct that firesleeve is required...for all
firewall-forward hoses,  not for the flexible hydraulic hoses in the gear
wells and under the seats in the cabin. For all firewall-forward
applications (fuel lines, oil lines to the oil cooler, VMS oil and fuel
pressure transducers), I used Aeroquip "666" hoses with firesleeve added by
the shop that made them up. I had those made up by a California aviation
hose shop, similar to Sacramento Sky Ranch. The "666" Aeroquips are Teflon
hoses with stainless braid, similar to the Imperial Eastman that I used for
the hydraulics.
The Imperial Eastman hose is relatively inexpensive; however, the
reason for the expense of the hydraulic installation is that the fittings
are about $ 25. each and there are a LOT of fittings in the flexible portion
of the hydraulic system. I may have overpaid and they could be obtained for
less, but then the local shop will likely charge more to crimp them and you
end up paying the same.
