Most glider pilots wear a rather shabby looking hat with a short brim, kind
of like a fisherman's hat without all them hooks. The shabbier the better,
it seems. Baseball hats don't work, 'cause when you turn your head the
canopy hits the brim and pushes it off your head.
The key item here is, you MUST cut off the little button at the top center of
the hat. Turbulence causing you to bump your head on the canopy will result
in a fractured canopy if you still have the button.
Believe it or not, a new pilot in a glider club is quite likely to have his
hat examined by the check pilot!
