My experience in the Navy working on light attack bombers (A7) and fighters
(F18) may shed some light on the subject. Canopies are not treated with any
coating. They are 1/4" plexiglass and are clear without tint. Not much
help blocking any IR there. Low altitude pilots faceshields could be
protected, I don't know about those. But, I do know that the canopies were
clear plexi with no coatings. You would probably have more success
contacting someone in NASA. The only true gold coatings that I know of in
military craft are the high altitude like the U2 and SR71. The helmets of
the pilots are basic astronaut helmets with coatings on the faceshields.

[Thanks for the info, Curtis... now if anyone out there has a contact in
NASA perhaps we could get steered in the proper direction. Hang onto your
wallets <g>. <Marv> ]
