The ultimate in infra-red protection would be to vapor deposit a layer of
gold a few molecules thick on the canopy (I don't know whether the inside

This is the same stuff that they use on the astronauts space suit
faceshields, and for the same reason. Gold is opaque to infra-red.
Vapor deposition is not that hard to do. I think the problem would be in
protecting the coating from damage after it was applied.
