It wouldn't take long for most things to reach kindling temperature in that situation. Also, because of the compound curvature of the canopy, the focus likely stayed close to one spot even with the sun's motion. It is also possible, I think, for the focal point of a large reflector to reach a temperature hotter than the open flame of a small match. JHK EAA # 778405
