Sure am sorry my name got attached to this thread of messages.
Regards,
John
[Sorry about that, John, but I have no control over what happens to the
subject titles of incoming messages at all. The point here, folks, is that
there have been many recommendations about how to handle subjects which
have gone unheeded. We ask in the List Posting Guidelines to simply import
the exact message title from the post you want to reply to and to _not_
invent new titles along the way. The thread archive software will tie
all messages together with the same title, allowing anyone who'd like to
follow the thread to do so.
A message was posted by Don Cavers on 9/8 with the subject "fuel tank
leaks". On 9/10 John Barrett replied (using the same imported subject)
as did a few other posters. Suddenly someone responded to John's message
and changed the subject to"John Barrett's fuel tank leaks", and that one
seems to have stuck. So there are now two threads going on out there which
have been disconnected by a single post, and John's name will live on
in perpetuity as the owner of the fuel tank leaks.
While this is not a huge deal, it is one that we should keep in mind, if
for no other reason than to keep all the messages which relate to a
single 'parent' message together in the thread archives. This will allow
anyone to follow a discussion from beginning to end without having to dig
through the entire message base to locate posts which may be related.
If you're posting a new message to the LML you get to invent the subject...
if you're replying to a post, please use the subject provided.
more than 'nuff said.... <Marv> ]
