HI Alan,
I haven't done any actual engineering on a removable stick yet so my idea may turn out (as usual) to be more difficult to accomplish than I envision. Plan "A" is to cut the stick off just above the top pivot bolt leaving only the stick base. That leaves, as you indicated, very little tubing to work with for attachment. The pivot bolts pass all the way though the stick tube base so that precludes just using a smaller diameter tube as an insert into the base. I thought I might be able to weld another short tube parallel to the stick base on the outboard side (looking like a double barrel shotgun). An offset, tight fitting insert tube could then be welded to the control stick. I'm no artist but I tried to attach a rough sketch for clarification. If you (or anyone else) have any suggestions or comments, please speak up.
