Marv had a blurb some time ago about using the wet side of a shop vac, filling it to a depth of about 3-4" of water and adding a pipe from the inlet down to where it is covered by the water. The water acts as a filter/precipitator for the dust and the filter stays pretty clean. We did this and I can highly recommend it. I can take a couple of pictures of the installation if you wish.

The filter had plugged up with fine dust so the motor slowed down enough
with the load to no longer cool itself, then "we have ignition".   He got it
away from the wall before the wall caught too.

This really hit home, since my vac is under my glass room floor with about a
3' crawl space.  Moral? Clean your filter frequently and consider what would
happen if you had a melt down.
