Dear Listers,
I have to echo Brent's sentiments on Faston and similar crimp on connectors.
The issue of corrosion is real. The worst connector offenders have been the
VM1000 cables. They look like the cable for that add on hard disk for my
PC. Once on the way to San Diego from Minneapolis I had a series of
aberrant intermittent reading due to internal corrosion that forced a turn
around and an airline walk up to the counter purchase . Ouch. Another time
I had a loose connector on an oil pressure sender that warranted an
emergency turn around in solid IFR. Yikes. A field connector failed and
the alternator flunked out, even though looking at the connector and pulling
on it seemed to be OK. It seems like it's not really a question of if but
rather when the failure is going to occur.
