Interesting that you posted this subject right after I flew my Lancair with
a dual LSE ignition system installed.

I did not dyno the IO 360 Lycoming engine nor did a test comparison of mags.
I did however do some speed runs and the rebuilt engine with dual LSE
ignition is flying significantly faster.

There is an output on the LSE system to install a meter and variable
resister to mechanically advance the timing much like an ignitiion advance
feature on the older outboard motors.  This option will solve the problem
you stated in your posting. You could advance the timing, if it is necessary
to achieve your designed horsepower output. There is the danger however of
burning up the pistons if you abuse this system. You should advance the
timing no further than original design parameters of your stock motor.  If
however, you upped the compression then the maximum advance should be less
than the original design parameters to eliminate possible engine damage and
reduce internal stresses. Remember when you change your engine
configuration; you are truly experimenting with a new and different
powerplant.

In an earlier life as a hydro outboard racer, I saw many alki burners scream
around the course for two laps only to load up and cook an engine as the
pistons left aluminum on the cylinder walls and die in the water.
