Working directly with Lancair does have some advantages and if a new stock
engine were desired that would be a way to go.  However modified major
components (powerplants and props) are not usually sold by the kit companies,
be they Lancair, Van's, or others.  I hold to the Lancair mission statement of
"We build custom aircraft", and with that comes risks and the chance for
disappointment.  I believe that as a group Lancair builders should have the
buying power to ensure fair treatment by all our suppliers: the kit company,
parts distributors, engine and prop manufacturers, paint and interior shops,
and even insurance companies.  Perhaps we need our own on-line BBB with
listings and ratings of  suppliers.
