I think the Lancair manual should state it as "Range" not "Max Range".  It's typical to see a range expressed with a power setting, allowing for reserves.
 
Max Endurance is the maximum time aloft and Max Range is miles on a gallon of gas.  Both of those are typically much less than 65% power.  Vy and max range are usually close.  Max endurance in even slower than max range.
 
The Range Profile and Endurance Profile in the Columbia 400 manual go down to 45% and show significant improvement over 65% power in both range and endurance.  The endurance goes up almost two hours and the range increases about 250 miles.
