Ron & I had some of the same conversation wirth Tru Trak on Tuesday. The DFC 250 will not be able to handle the GPSV for two reasons. One is that the 480 will not send it - for the time being. And that is in Garmin's lap to work - as you were told. The second reason is that the computational power and memory in the 250 will be probably be over run. They said they never did promise that the 250 would be able to do it. The Sorceror has the computational and memory capacity and only needs the solution from Garmin. The real shocker was when we asked if we could trade the 250 box in for the Sorceror. The answer was yes - it uses the same pinouts and tray. However, the cost will be $4600!!! :-((
For the time being, we'll use the vv input to the 250 to fly the GPSV and let the box take care of the courseline - that is, if we ever have to use it to get into a field that only has WAAS for an approach.
The IMAPS Group had a stunning combo of a tablet PC (Motion 1400), approach plates, sectionals, IFR hi and low charts, GPS moving map, Blue Tooth GPS, Destination Direct software, Aeroplanner software and Weather Worx weather. Getting the WxWorx receiver with Blue Tooth is an option. Annual update fee, on a 28 day cycle, for the plates, sectionals, enroute IFR charts and other software is $200. If anyone is looking into weather, take a look at this package. The tablet PC is complete with stand and keyboard (built into the hard cover top). It has a 40 gb hard drive and a 1.1 gHz processor and 512 Mb of RAM. One can use it as a full-up laptop PC when on the road. Check it out.

My contact at Garmin, a former UPSAT guy, said that they are aware of the issue, but resources aren't available right now to write the software to drive the 32 bit GPSV signal. I'm not sure weather I should upgrade to the Sorcerer or not, even though TruTrak would update my unit when the new 32 bit data is available from Garmin. I'm curious why the "standard" data format wasn't established by the ARINC people, or whoever decides this stuff.
