John, can't help with finding a Lancair guy in Europe but here's a
suggestion for your London stay.
Make an effort to try one of London's "haunted" pubs, "The Grenadier". It's
a short walk off Knightsbridge, between Knightsbridge and Belgrave Square,
fairly close to the east end of Hyde Park. If I remember right (I often
walked there from my hotel on Knightsbridge without paying too much
attention to the street, or alley, signs) it's on an alley called "Old
Barrack Yard", but a good concierge can tell you for sure. The pub was once
a part of one of England's king's stables for a mounted military outfit -
hence the name "The Grenadier" and even still has the mounting stone near
the door.
Great ales and fish 'n chips (what else is new?) in the pub area and,
regardless of what you've heard about English food, even better dining in
the small cafe in the rear. We often could get seating without a reservation
if early but they are a good idea in most cases.
If you get there, be sure to ask about the "haunted pub" story.
