Another consideration:
When returning to the US at least one customs inspector has little regard for
the nuances of the
FAA size rules and locations of ADIZs. Consequently you can get an inspector
who believs "all" airplanes need 12" N numbers. He can then proceed to give
you
a very hard time in the sun on a hot day with your family not allowed out of
the
airplane yet, just cause he can. You know you can win eventually but who
needs the hassle.
That was one out of many border crossings but I will have 12" numbers on any
airplane
