I don’t get it. Here are the results from the RARA website. Looks like 1.99 seconds to me. Do they have it wrong?

"Less than 5 feet?  C'mon Rick, I was there.  Your plane was a close second, but according to the official results there was 1.99 seconds between 1st and 2nd place.  At 323 MPH that's over 900 ft.  Close at those speeds, but not 5 feet."

 

 

 

Tom,

   I was at that race too- Rick's correct- it was about 5 feet.  As his and Darryl's planes flew by the finish line, there was no space between the tail of Darryl's and the nose of Rick's.  I don't know what race or heat you're referring to, but Rick's talking about the Gold race in 2003.  The gap between first and second in that race was a very small fraction of one second, not 1.99.
