How do
I do this while watching the runway on takeoff. If I consistently takeoff from
5k' I know where the mixture should be set for EGT's of 1250. However if I am at
sea level or Leadville, I do not know where the mixture should be set. My method
allows watching the runway while adjusting the mixture at any density altitude
and then fine tweaking it later when I do not have to worry about runway
centerline.

At 1000' to 1500' AGL (~6500') lean to 1250 degrees F Max cylinder EGT
temperature. Every 1000' from then on until at cruise level lean to 1250
degrees F max cylinder EGT. Cylinder head temperatures all stay below 360
degrees.
Your
method works, but if you would do the above step on the original takeoff roll,
you can skip the first three steps and the engine will run cooler! It works at
ANY altitude at any OAT and is repeatable and easy.
