I will tell you that although not every one agrees with Don Goetz he does know how to flyt a plane and his high approaches is what will save your life if you have an engine out. His first advice is to fly high, second is to fly the pattern at 1500 ft above ground level, (by the way that is approved by FAA to vary your pattern height according to the performance of your airplane) and a steep decent and flair out at the end of the runway. It works and I fly that way and if you remember I have blown up an engine in the sky and have lived to talk about it. The most important thing I can say about an engine out is to fly your best glide speed and look for a good place to land and if close to an airport don't put your gear down until you have to. We follow Dons advise on landing approaches and yes the flair out can have a tendancy to float but if you learn to do it right and practice landings. I think that if you want to know more about landing an airplane in an emergency you should schedule Don Goetz to give a lecture on it at EAA if he would. No one knows more and has had more failures leading to emergency landings and I would listen to him carefully for he is still flying and walking away from landings. I think it would be very import for all because thanks to Don and his training I am still walking an flying Dan Schott >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML homepage: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html
