Once near locked, the springs generate sufficient force to prevent the link from folding, even without hydraulic pressure. If your rat-trap springs don’t reliably push the links over-center, a brief slip will generate enough air-load on the gear doors to assure the links lock.  Once near locked, the springs generate sufficient force to prevent the link from folding, even without hydraulic pressure.
