Randy,
I found myself in the same situation. Prepreg is
painfully expensive. But you can get end-grain balsa for very little, and
laminate 2-BID on each side to get nearly the same result at only slightly
higher weight and much lower cost. I wouldn't use it for large areas, but it's
great for that small job just as your other materials run out. I think a roll of
end-grain (2"squares on one-side loose-weave cloth backing) cost $10-$15. It
would make about 10 sq ft.
