The first IV-P to use our Carbinge hinges for cowls used a prototype
fiberglass hinge that was bench cured and built in every respect by hand.
Those hinges are still in place and working well after 5 years and about 800
hours of flight time.  I think if you had maintenance problems with the
hinges, it may have been because of the use of aluminum hinges or some other
reason.  I don't believe a properly installed bonded graphite hinge install
will be maintenance intensive at all.  We have many installations of our
product on cowlings and there have been few if any complaints about
 maintenance issues.

I'm sorry this sounds like a shameless plug, but the comments made need a
 response.

During the rebuild of my L-IVP, I used the factory recommended method of
screws and nutplates but added countersunk  finishing  washers.  Way too
much maintenance with original setup.  Regards, Bill Hogarty
