Gary - FWIW, during the original construction of my L-IVP, I used piano hinges to joint the top and bottom cowl and also at the rear of each lower cowl. In addition, I used milspec fasteners at the rear of the top cowl.
During the rebuild of my L-IVP, I used the factory recommended method of screws and nutplates but added countersunk finishing washers. Way too much maintenance with original setup. Regards, Bill Hogarty
