Last time I checked, the standard is a 25 mile radius from the test airport. "Just like in real life" (citing Mike Ditka), you don't get anything you don't ask for! In a recent GAMI Lean Test, I went from the west side of the ORD veil to the Mississippi before all the data was recorded for just 4 cylinders (6500', 195 KTAS).
