Halon? built in? hand held? " Ron, I wanted to have some protection against the unlikely event of an engine fire. Although unlikely, there was a very nasty Lancair 4 accident a few years ago when a fire broke out, and could not be controlled. It burnt through the firewall before they could get it on the ground and they were both killed. I bought a Halon fire extinguisher from my regular parts supplier (eBay!), and plan to fit it in the engine compartment. I think it is designed for race cars, and is designed for remote actuation. I intend to fit a spray bar to deliver most of the contents to the front of the engine compartment, so that the Halon will spread back through the engine compartment. One of those things that is totally useless until you really need it, and then - - - - My other thought is whether it is worth installing a temperature sensor in the engine compartment to act as a basic fire warning device? Jerry [We installed a chain of 365 degree thermal fuses along the underside of the upper cowl firewall attachment flange, hooked to the annunciator panel. Just a thought. ]
