    I just read your posting on the LML about the length desired for first flight and probable the most important thing is 'who is going to do the first flight' and what is their background.  I have for about 30 years done off and on experimental test flying after spending years as the chief engineering test pilot for a major manufacturer. With this background I would say that if the pilot is highly proficient in Lancairs and the systems are functioning reliably 1/2 mile would be adequate but minimal. Care and attention to details would be very important.  That length of runway leaves little room  for errors in machine or pilot bur the overrun helps.
