Dan, you would be an idiot to attempt a first flight from a 2600 foot runway.

Is it possible to do? Yes. Is it a good idea? Absolutely not!

It is imperative that you MINIMIZE RISK for the first flight so that you have the greatest safety margins. Using a zero margin runway for the first flight because you are too lazy or too cheap to bring the plane to suitable airfield may be one of the last really bad decisions you ever get to make. If you don't believe me just ask "Ike" Issacson, the many thousand hour pilot, lancair instructor and developer of the Flightcraft Lancair training manual who taught me how to fly the IV. Oh, but wait, you can't because he is DEAD. Killed trying to do EXACTLY what you are proposing. You can still learn from him.

Is the runway too short? If you have to ask..... IT IS!
