  Rob,
  My impressions so far with the GRT EFIS have been very positive on our 22
  hour Atlantic Crossing.  The engine monitoring system in excellent, and is
  one of the strong features.  It is highly customizable, with full alert
  capabilities and GRT is continuing to update and improve the software.  I
  especially liked all the information and the trend monitoring when 300nm
  from dry land.
  We didn't have a chance to use the map pages much.  I already had the GNS
  530 and Sandel HSI so I continued to just use them.  Big key feature appears
  to be a good database and FREE updates. When the ARINC 429 interface is
  ready, the EFIS will be able to faction as the VOR/LOC/GS head for the 530.
  I was very happy with the PFD screen.  The information and layout are well
  done.  Before the trip, Pete Zacaganino put the plane through some very
  aggressive manoeuvres ours to test the quality of the attitude data.  The
  instrument performed extremely well, with no noticeable errors or lag.
  Readability in all conditions has been very good.  I understand the attitude
  information will work completely independent of magnetic, gps, or air data
  information and perform at an acceptable level. However, these 3 inputs
  improve the quality of the attitude data under more demanding flight
  regimes.
  The quality of the components and display appear extremely high.  Customer
  support from Greg and Todd, like usual, has been excellent.  However, bear
  in mind that they are still adding features, revising the operating manual,
  etc.
  Compared to the traditional mechanical instruments, it appears the way to
  go.  Previously, I had two RCAllen 12v gyros (over $2000 each), plus the
  usual steam gauges.  The GRT appears to be a quantum leap in functionality,
  reliability, and safety, at a nominally higher price (cheaper in the long
  term?).  The leap in functionality versus the standard 6 pack is amazing.
  Plus, weight savings to boot.
  I also ordered the TruTrak Digiflight IIVSGV (lateral and vertical GPS
  steering).  For now, TT is only shipping the IIVS so that is what I am using
  until the VSGV is ready.  When GRT and TT complete their software, you will
  be able to preselect the altitude and climb rate for the AP from the GRT
  EFIS.  You can also fly a heading bug from the EFIS.
  I have not flown the Chelton/Sierra (only hanger flown) so I can't compare.
  But at $25k+ it is in a somewhat different category.  I have also not flown
  the BMA, buy chose the GRT for its size, design robustness (didn't like all
  the complexity of the BMA system), and my very positive experience working
  with Greg and Todd over the past 7-8 years.  While I always like more
  features, my first concern is reliability and basic functionality at
  critical times.
