Hi,
I have the extensions on my 320. They took about 500 hours to build because
I made them so that they unscrew and the short tips can also be used. I
only fit the extension when I am going to fly over 300nm and above 8,000'.
They
add 4' to the span and 8lbs to the gross weight. You should note that the
main spar needs to be strengthened and the wing tip joggles cut away and
re-built using 4" joggles of 8BID. This is where all the work lies. If you
fit
the longer tips as a permanent feature the work is obviously less in that
you
do not have to match the two different sets of tips with the joggle.
The tips increase the cruise speed for a given power setting (above 8000')
by about 10kts. They raise the stall speed by a few knots, decrease the
roll
rate and allow a slightly slower touch-down speed. hey are good for
converting pilots on to type.
If I was building my aircraft again I probably wouldn't bother building
them. I attach two photos showing the aircraft with short and long tips.
