Gerard O Connell,

In reply to your poll about TAS I'll give you mine.

On a trip last Friday to Charlotte I recorded the following:

 Gross weight: 1420 lbs.
Altitude: 9500 ft.
Temp: 8 deg. C
Engine: 2350 RPM/22.25" MAP
KIAS: 170
KTAS: 199

The numbers I plugged into my panel mounted Trimble TNL2000.

I have the standard hyd. pressure switches.  I rarely get a hyd. motor burp,
even on long trips so my system is pretty tight.  On very rare occasions,
after a long trip (two hours +/-) the landing gear will not lower when I put
the switch down.  I open the bypass valve for about half a second and the
wheels come down.  That happens so seldom I have not replaced the valve,
thinking that another valve could be just like the first one, and I don't
like chasing shadows.  Apparently, over time, gear up pressure will bleed
into the down side, and activate the down pressure switch.

I make it a practice to open the bypass valve and let the hydraulic motor
run for a couple seconds before I turn off the Master switch after shutdown.
Curiously, sometimes the motor won't come on for several seconds when I open
the valve.  Other times the motor comes right on.  I can't guess what is
going on in there with the hydraulic pressures all the time.  But over 1000
hours of operation the gear has come up and gone down/locked on demand.
