my 2 cents for of info regarding wx in the cockpit. I have been using the wxanywhere system with a pda coupled via sat phone and gps. Most of my trips on my IV-P are usually 300-800 nm long and the system is very effective if cumbersome. Look like a bowl of spaguetti that gets in the way. I hang the darn phone off the dust shield and the gps. Download time usually takes 1-2 minutes and data is not more than 10 minutes old. the best is the ability to get terminal destination weather and the program has an option for destination. without a usable autopilot there is too much to do. I opted for this system since I did not want to make another antenna hole in my fuselage for the DL49. I wish they get rid of the wires and I understand there is a wireless option on the works but they wont tell any more. I use if for evasion, last trip to Taos I could see the bad stuff in between and a KingAir ahead with deicers and radar opted for going all the way. He iced up and declared an emergency. The weather map indicated where to go to avoid the precip. My stormscope usually agrees with the info. The system is too small due to PDA. Added benefit is a 512 mg card with the entire approach plates for USA which again is too small for use but in an emergency will do. I usually use the system at home in my PC and print all plates on regular paper to my destination and possible alternate. I get my renewal thru the internet in 10 minutes via DSL q 2 months.
The PDA if discharged will loose the program and I have a backup sandisk provided by the factory that will reinstall the program immediately avoiding the messy pc reprogramming deal.
andres 18AK  IV-P over 200 hrs and still going lean of peak as per Charlie K.
