Hoyt had is ES in for some work on the left wing. The fuel had been transfered out of the left wing and into the right. So there were only vapors in the left tank. It is suspected that there was a static discharge when the fuel filler cap was removed on the left wing. This caused the vapors inside the wing to explode. The bottom of the wing was separated and the left wing burned. It was not initially apparent that the inside of the fuselage was smoldering because the door was closed. Once it was discovered, it was extinguished also. There is smoke damage to the interior. Left wing is totaled. The control surfaces were all removed and were not affected. The tail was not affected. The engine and firewall forward was not affected. The electronics have not been energized but are expected to be operable. The engine has plasma ignition and 100 amp alternator. AeroComposites propeller. It also has an air conditioning system. The repair cost (retail) was too great for the insurance company to pay. (ie. insured value was less than estimated salvage value.) So it will be salvaged. The insurance company wants to sell the entire remains as salvage. Any one interested? If anyone needs an engine, this may be a good deal. Mike Salzman Fairfield, CA LNCE
