My pumps are original at 1270 hours.  Two under the seats feed through
aluminum tubing.  Only the header tank has a gage.  The electric gage will
fluctuate nicely if I kick a little rudder but it's reading is affected by
varying voltage.  There is a wind up timer with a red light on the panel. I
think it's a 30 min. timer and  I use it as a reminder to check turning on
the pumps and again to turn them off.  Hokey but useful.  I can't hear the
pumps in flight and I expect there have been times I let them run empty for
maybe up to 5 minutes.
