The oil sump on my new
IO-550-N (in my Legacy) has two sump drains. One is on the left side,
poised just above the ball fitting on the nose gear's gas spring. That one
looks nearly impossible to get at. The other, however, is on the right
side, and sits vertically in a depression in the oil pan. It appears to be
about as low in the pan as the other, and will pose no particular problems for
oil changes.
Any reason why not to use
the side drain, rather than the nearly inaccessible other one?
