Thanks for the tip.  Some things remain a mystery until they are actually put into operation.  Maybe I won't lube it at all.

Barry,

I've been flying with the retract step for over five years, and I lube it with a silicone spray can.  Every 3 to 4 mos. works fine...if I let it go longer the friction holds it forward enough that it stays in front of the gear leg as it comes down.  This does no harm, and in fact can be a  scenic advantage if your passenger is wearing a miniskirt.
