I've been=20 flying with the retract step for over five years, and I lube it with a = silicone spray can.  Every 3 to 4 mos. works fine...if I let it = go longer=20 the friction holds it forward enough that it stays in front of the = gear leg as=20 it comes down.  This does no harm, and in fact can be a  = scenic=20 advantage if your passenger is wearing a miniskirt.
